Chef Johnnie Handal is a Los Angeles native with an East Coast Italian heritage. He was born and raised in the restaurant business –- in fact, his after-school daycare was the table closest to the kitchen at his family’s Italian Restaurant San Gennaro, located in Brentwood Village (West Los Angeles). If you sat in the restaurant’s dining room in the ‘80s and saw pizza dough twirling from the open kitchen, chances are there was an eight-year old Chef Johnnie under it.
Chef Johnnie’s passion for gathering friends and family around the table led him into professional culinary training at “A New School of Cooking.” For over 10 years, he applied this training to the kitchens of his family’s two successful restaurants, which inspired him to pursue his own business as a personal chef to the area’s prominent families.
Ever the consummate host -- whether it’s for game-day, smoked BBQ or a marathon training healthy “feast” -- he is constantly updating his repertoire, traveling the world for inspiration, and updating classics with a modern bent
