THE MALIBU BEACH RECOVERY SYSTEM℠ Exercise Program

Kurma Yoga is the official name of THE MALIBU BEACH RECOVERY SYSTEM℠ Exercise Program

It is hard to imagine how our clients could succeed as they do without the unique combination of carefully chosen exercises they do each day which are specifically designed to enhance mood, raise dopamine levels and sustain the resulting sense of well-being.

Lead exercise instructor Oleg Flow (formerly Oleg Yevseyev), a native of Ukraine, daily inspires both the teachers and the clients.   The grandson of an alcoholic, the son of an alcoholic, Oleg doesn’t drink but in the past was severely depressed.  He believes the depression is genetic.  His life changed when he began practicing yoga in the early 1990s.  He became focused on a series of exercises and breathing techniques that helped him keep his mood elevated.  “I solved my problem and began trying to help others” he says.   “Now depression is just a memory.”

Oleg received his first yoga certificate from the Yoga Federation of the USSR and became a certified yoga teacher of TriYoga International in1993.   Before coming to the United States, he taught yoga in many countries including Ukraine, Russia, Austria, Spain, China and Israel, specializing in helping clients regulate their moods and increase their physical capabilities.

It was Oleg who methodically created Kurma Yoga system  by observing on a daily basis which exercises are most helpful to clients who need to repair the brain damage created by alcohol, street drugs and prescription drugs, depression, anxiety, and chemical imbalance.  He has carefully chosen slow movements and breathing exercises which help reduce anxiety, and which can be successfully done by people with different physical abilities, psychological and physiological issues.

BRAIN REJUVENATING PROGRAM

By nature our brain is addicted to the five senses first classified by Aristotle:  sight, hearing, touch, smell and taste.   These healthy addictions keep our bodies and minds going.  They are like fuel for a car.
But just as there are different qualities of fuel, there are different kinds of addictions. One addiction can kill us while another supports life.

There are two main types of addictions: healthy and unhealthy.  Healthy addictions include breathing, exercising, healthy diet, drinking water, having sex.  These addictions create positive emotions.
Unhealthy or unnatural addictions include dependence on illegal and prescribed drugs, alcohol, junk food,  and laziness.  These addictions create negative emotions.
For our brain it doesn’t matter what kind of addiction was developed, but once developed they are extremely difficult to change them. That is why it is important to develop healthy addictions sooner rather than later.
For the main healthy addictions, breathing is crucial. Without food the most one can live is approximately 30 days.  Without water 2-3 days.  But without breathing, in 5-7 minutes irreversible changes of brain cells take place. It means that more than anything else, our brain and body depend on breathing every second.  This is how our brain gets oxygen.  The amount of oxygen, the pace and rhythm of our breathing and what muscles we use when we breathe, all of these factors influence our life minute by minute, second by second.
When we are ready to change our life we find that the unhealthy addictions are dominating our brains.  Stress, anxiety and depression develop bad diet, and bad diet develops stress, anxiety and depression. Once this dynamic is part of our lives, it escalates every second, minute, hour, day, week, month and year.  With each following second this dynamic gets stronger. If we don’t stop, it ruins our body, developing the chronic bad qualities of our character. The sooner we are ready to stop, the easier to create another dynamic.

To create a healthy dynamic we have to be ready to fight for every second of positive thinking, good diet and proper care of our body. But it doesn’t happen quickly, which is why every second counts and by extention every day, week, weeks, month, months, year and years.   It can be a very long journey but with each additional second this dynamic gets stronger.

After we reach that point we start a journey to our real nature, our original metrics.

Achieving a positive dynamic can be a very long, complicated process and it is impossible without reconstructing our brain chemistry, without strategy or a system.

The fastest way to rejuvenate the brain is by breathing correctly. Through breath we can learn to control and chose our addictions.

If drugs efficiently destroy brain neurons, breathing techniques are the most effective to rejuvenate them.

The root of unhealthy addictions is bad genetics, stress, anxiety, depression and bad diet. When we are stressed, we activate parts of a brain that make our breathing shallow.   We start breathing through our chest using small parts of our lungs lobes.  This is called hyperventilating.
Then shallow breathing becomes natural for us and creates more stress and anxiety – often without reason.   Stress and anxiety create shallow breathing and then shallow breathing creates stress and anxiety.

To change this vicious circle and even to neutralize bad genetics, we have to change the way we (1) breathe, (2) exercise (dynamic and static), (d) eat and (4) think. We have to change the way our brain functions.   If we develop only one of these four aspects, there are benefits.  If we develop all four at the same time, we get intensive positive dynamic of change.
