Our team is comprimised of selected professionals in the fields of addiction, general medicine, clinical psychology, nutrition, culinary arts and eastern exercises. All staff is certified according to their scope of practice and chosen for their passion to help others heal. Certified Addiction Treatment Counselors, all staff is licensed and/or certified and chosen for their individual history of excellence in their chosed profession.

Day/Evening Councelors to clients: 1:3

Overnight Counselors to clients: 1:6

Kathy Leigh Willis, Ph.D, Clinical Consultant

Ms. Willis (CADC II, NCAC II, BRI II) has been working in addiction treatment, family counseling, employee assistance and education for over 30 years. Ms. Willis is a graduate of John F. Kennedy in Orinda, California with a major in psychology. She has taught in the addiction studies program at the University of California, Davis and for the Employee Assistance summer school at the University of Nevada. She has conducted interventions for the past 20 years and created a style of counseling to assist newly recovering alcoholics and addicts called Transitional counseling.

Miriam is a licensed clinical psychologist. She holds a PhD in clinical Psychology, a masters-level certificate in Psychoanalytic Theory and Practice, and a Bachelors degree in Clinical Psychology. In having practiced psychology for over 15 years in diverse clinical settings, she has extensive experience treating drug and alcohol addiction, anxiety, depression, mood disorders, relationship problems, dual-diagnoses conditions, psychosomatic illnesses.

Nick Techentin, Ph.D., Program Director, Therapist

Nick holds a PhD in Clinical Psychology, is formally trained in the Marshak Method, and has many years experience working in addiction. He finds that his personal recovery adds a level of understanding and wisdom to his practice. Nick is certified in clinical hypnotherapy, and is a registered psychological assistant.

Dr. Cohanshohet, M.D., Independently Affiliated Physician

Dr. Cohanshohet graduated Summa Cum Laude from UCLA with a BS in Neuroscience where he co-investigated the effects of Antidepressants at the Brain Research and Neuorpsychiatric Institute. He first got interested in Addiction Medicine in 1998 at New York Medical College, where he received his Medical Degree. He did his residency at UCLA in Internal Medicine and has been very active in various areas of Substance Abuse.

Dr. Shahla Modir, M.D., Independently Affiliated Physician

Shahla Modir, M.D completed residency training in Psychiatry at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center and sub-specialty training in Addiction Psychiatry at the UCLA Medical Center. Dr. Modir is a Diplomate of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology for Psychiatry and a Diplomate of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology for Addiction Psychiatry. Dr. Modir has extensive training in Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT). Dr. Modir is a licensed buprenorphine provider.

A native of Ukraine, Oleg has been practicing and teaching yoga for 18 years. He began as a child, taking classes from his mother. He has completed internationally in swimming, judo, and taekwondo. He received his first yoga certificate from Yoga Federation of USSR. Since 1993 he has been a certified yoga teacher of TriYoga International, teaching yoga at International Yoga conferences and conventions, giving private and group classes in countries across the globe including Spain, Israel, China, Austria, Italy, Great Britain, Turkey, Egypt and Russia.

Ellery Holesapple, CADCA, RTC, Counselor

Ellery has been working in substance abuse treatment for several years. He completed the addictions counseling certificate program at Loyola Marymount University and is a California Association of Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Counselors (CAADAC) certified counselor. He earned his Reality Therapy Certification from the William Glasser Institute and is currently working on completing the Certified Criminal Justice Professional Credential at LMU. He also works with the students at LMU as a teacher's assistant in the Public Health Studies program helping to educate new counselors in Case Management and Basic Counseling Skills in the Treatment of Addictions.

In Memory of Dr. Milton Birnbaum, M.D., 1929-2009

Dr. Birnbaum was a dedicated professional addictionologist who worked in the recovery field since becoming clean and sober himself many decades ago. A graduate of New York University, he received a D.O. from the College of Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons in Los Angeles, and his M.D. from the University of California at Irvine’s College of Medicine.
